 About MACIC
 

The Milwaukee Area College Internship Consortium (MACIC) is composed of the internship directors, coordinators, or primary contact persons for both public and private colleges and universities in SE Wisconsin. Formed in spring, 2001, the group meets quarterly to collaborate on internship issues. They have agreed to focus on the following:

  • Promote internships to students and employers
  • Facilitate internship information exchange between students and employers
  • Provide internship resources for students and employers
  • Provide mentoring/training to professionals new to the internship field
  • Enable partnerships with the community (for-profit/non-profit)
  • Provide evidence to parents that the college assists students to move from school to work
  • Share concerns/discuss issues regarding internships

Accomplishments

  • On June 14, 2006 the 2nd Annual Employer Appreciation Event was held at the Eisner Museum of Art and Design.  This event was planned by MACIC and sponsored by all the MACIC schools, as well as 8 other WI schools.  It was attended by 68 guests representing 42 employers in addition to 53 school representatives and provided a great networking opportunity for everyone.   Plans for the 3rd Annual Employer Event to be held in June 2007 will be underway soon.

  • 04-05 academic year- planned and held the first Annual Employer Appreciation event in June 05 at the Milwaukee Historical Society. This event was attended by public and private colleges as well as many businesses and organizations from the SE Wisconsin area.
     
  • MACIC members have done presentations for the MMAC Scholars, WI-ACE (Association of Colleges and Employers), MCEIA (Midwest Cooperative Education and Internship Association) 2004 convention in Milwaukee, Agency Executives Group, Wisconsin Society of Association Executives, and Racine County Workforce Development Employer Workshops
     
  • During the 02-03 academic year MACIC worked on an Employer’s handbook. “Establishing and Maintaining a Quality Internship Program”
     
  • In 2002 Brian Weis, the founder of www.wijobs.com, supported MACIC by offering free internship postings on the job board to all companies. He also created www.milwaukeeinternships.com a webpage that describes MACIC and the schools involved.
     
  • 2001- MACIC in Collaboration with the MMAC published an Internship Directory
